Chess Yes! Summer Fun Club!

Have loads of fun learning to play the centuries old game of Chess and try to become our summer Chess Champion! Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate level player, here is where to get your game on. If you don’t know the rules of the game, we’ll teach you; if you already know how to play, we’ll make you a better player. Get a quick overview of how to win a chess match – not just checkmating your opponent, but how to get that point.

In addition to short training discussions and working on chess puzzles and worksheets, players will have lots of opportunity to play chess. The best way to improve your chess is to play lots of games and then go over them – do it at the “Chess Yes! Summer Fun Club!”

Cooking Around the Clock

Kids, what are your favorite foods? Learn how to cook this summer with Chef Anthony! While learning how to make pastas, salsas, pizzas and desserts you will be introduced to the basics of safety in the kitchen, how to handle food and how to plan a recipe. Cooking Around the World

Does your camper have a love for and looking to broaden their palate horizons? If so, Chef Anthony’s Cook Around the World Course is perfect! Take a culinary vacation through Chef Anthony’s International Kitchen. Campers will experience the different cultures and styles of cuisine while enhancing their taste buds. Dance – LaChaney’s Dance Academy

LaShonda Chaney, Founder, LaChaney’s Dance & Music Academy; www.lachaney.com

Director of LaChaney’s Dance Academy & former NBA Nets Dancer, LaShonda Chaney will be bringing GSB and exciting program to young campers, both boys and girls to learn the fundamentals of dance.  We will emphasize on progressing technically; building strength and flexibility; increasing coordination; choreography, Jazz and Hip-Hop; and most importantly having FUN together.  Additional class time in dance history, anatomy, terminology, performance skills, and dance composition will make a varied day for young dancers.  Two or three sessions of arts and crafts time each week will help the young dancers create minor costume pieces.

Great Outdoors

Spend the summer outside! Students will spend half of the session on the beautiful Gill St. Bernard’s School campus exploring stream ecology, taking short hikes and learning the basics of photography. Woodworking will also be a part of the adventure; a project will involve carving your own personal walking stick! Outdoor ethics, travel, safety and survival skills will be addressed. This five-day course includes a trip to Ort pond for fishing, boating and a BBQ, and culminates in a three-day, two-night (tent only) camping trip in the New Jersey Pinelands, complete with a kayak day trip! Campus lunches, camping meals, camping fees, boat rentals and transportation are all included. Minimum enrollment 14 and maximum is 17. All registrations are due by June 6th to ensure participation in the program.

Having Fun with Dance & Cheerleading

An exciting week of cheer and dance taught by LaShonda Chaney, Director of LaChaney’s Dance & Music Academy, former Nets Cheerleader, and former high school cheer coach. Learn how to lead a crowd with energy, spirit, and personality. We will focus on technique, precision, tumbling and stunts. Get prepared for cheerleading season! Holidays-Don’t You Wish Everyday Could be a Holiday?

Well, it can be! This one-week course will take you through a year’s worth of holidays in just one week. Learn about common and uncommon holiday traditions and customs. Make creative holiday decorations and food based items from around the world. For example, did you know on December 23 in Oaxaca, Mexico it is the Night of the Radishes? So, come learn about this and many other holidays. Minimum enrollment 5 and maximum enrollment 15.

Incredible Music Theatre Experience for Kids

IMTE for Kids is an exciting musical theatre workshop, led by Amy & David Southerland, designed to build self confidence in Lower School students interested in the performing arts. Participants will learn songs and skits and play theatre games to explore the use of the voice and the art of storytelling. A showcase will be presented at the end of the week for friends and family. Minimum of 6 participants.

Intensive Music Theatre Experience Jr.

IMTE Jr. is a musical theatre workshop, led by Amy & David Southerland and designed to help Middle School students improve performance skills and self–confidence. Acting, improvisation, dance, vocal technique, monologues, scene study and more will be highlighted as they work with musical theatre repertoire to be presented in a showcase on Friday at 2:30pm. Lunch is provided daily. Minimum of 8 participants.

Lego Robotics

Campers will build and program Lego® robots using sensors and motors. By working together to design and construct their own interactive robots, campers will be experimenting with science while they learn to build playful motorized creations with Lego®. Minecraft

Have you ever played Minecraft on a tablet or phone? While Pocket Minecraft has the same gameplay, in Minecraft PC it will require good computer skills to be a successful Minecraft player. In Minecraft Camp, players will be taught how to use the keyboard and mouse to successfully navigate, build and craft in a Minecraft world. You will learn how to use those necessary computer skills in both survival and creative modes. Players will also be introduced to multiplayer mode allowing for team building sessions and adventuring, all moderated by the instructor. You will learn: Basic Computing Skills, Basic Crafting, Building, Designing & Creativity, Teamwork & Problem solving.

Minecraft II Advanced

Getting serious about your Minecraft skills? Want to learn how to create automated contraptions using redstone? How about creating a train system that helps haul your newly found diamonds? Whatever you can think of, you can learn how to do it all in Minecraft II Advanced! In Minecraft II Advanced, you will learn how to use gathered materials to create elaborate devices and contraptions that can aid you in your adventures. You will also learn how to use essential mods to help enhance your Minecraft experience as well as many other advanced Minecraft skills. You will learn: Redstone Engineering, Visual Programing, Advanced Crafting, Building, Designing & Creativity, Teamwork & Problem Solving.

Scrapbooking

Do you have the desire to have fun and be creative? Learn how to create an everlasting scrapbook for all your memories. Students will learn layout design, traditional scrapbooking methods, and how to use tools and embellishments. They will also learn creative techniques for adding personal touches. Each student will go home with their creation. Students must bring personal photographs to class (approximately 20-30) Minimum enrollment 4 and maximum enrollment 14.

Sewing Camp I

Come experience the fun of sewing! From learning to sew a button, to reading a pattern and operating a sewing machine, campers will experience the art of sewing in a creative environment. Each camper will have their own machine to use, and will be taught how to safely operate it. Campers will learn to take measurements, match colors and will create a sewing kit filled with tools to take home*. Campers will make adorable stuffed animals, room decorations, and other fun accessories in the fabrics of their choice. *One kit per camper each summer.

Sewing Camp II

Kids will learn fundamental sewing skills as they make a simple garment! Young sewers will learn how to take their measurements, read a pattern envelope and pattern instructions, handle fabric, use tools, and follow and cut a pattern along with construction and finishing techniques. Threading the sewing machine, winding the bobbin, and learning about machine safety and how to use the machine are also reviewed.

Super Sleuths

Learn about different aspects of being a mystery detective through hands-on activities. Some of the activities will include fingerprint analysis, chromatography, and laser maze spy training while building key observational skills and teamwork. Minimum enrollment 5 and maximum enrollment 15.

Tinker Space Doll Lab

Do you have an American Girl or 18 inch doll that you love to accessorize? Join us in the Middle School Learning Commons Tinker Space to imagine, design, and create clothing and accessories for your 18 inch doll. We will also stage the dolls and your creations and make a memory book of the week. If you love crafting and American Girl, this is the camp for you!

3D Printing

Our 3D printing course introduces the high-tech world of 3D printing to kids. It enables campers to learn the necessary technological skills of today, use professional software and have FUN!
